Figure 15.19 presents a summary of site improvement methods as a function of soil grain size. For an in-depth discussion of soil improvement methods, see Lawton (1996).

Whatever method of soil improvement is selected, the final step should be to check the results in the field using such methods as the cone penetration test (CPT) or standard penetration test (SPT).

If the soil improvement is unsatisfactory, then it should be repeated until the desired properties are attained.
